Lewes RFC

35 - 7

(HT 14-7)

St Leonards Cinque Ports RFC

With Hove being unable to raise a team to take on our 1st XV, the Lewes Vice Presidents were fully entertained firstly with a delicious Christmas lunch and then by the youthful 2nd XV who produced some delightful running rugby in their game with St Leonards Cinque Ports.

The young Lewes team did not have it all their own way, as the powerful St Leonards side broke through for the first try of the match. However, Lewes fought back strongly and Adam Hutchings nearly scored before Thomas Moore eventually got over before converting his own try.

Lewes consisted of a fine balance of second team regulars alongside some promising Colts players, and this mix did take a while before it fully gelled. Eventually a slick passing movement allowed Hutchings to score his deserved try, and with Moore’s dependable kicking, the score was 14-7 at half time.

As Lewes worked on their game it became clear that their passing was becoming more fluent, and this set up Rory Macleod for a great run to put coach Sayers in for a popular touchdown. It was then Rory Hall’s turn to finish off more good passing from Lewes, as he bagged a brace of tries, accompanied by more conversions from Moore.

It has very much been a theme of the season to see players come through from the junior ranks into the senior sides and the success of this transition policy that is such an important part of the club was fully on show for the Vice Presidents.
